The East Timor Project was officially launched on Saturday 28 June 2014. During the first 12 to 18 months, the focus was to raise funds to enable the building of 10 houses. The target was $80,000 and there was also the opportunity for people to participate in a Working Party Mission Trip in July 2015.
Since the launch it has been great to be able to celebrate the goal of $80,000 being raised and now surpassed. Due to the decrease in material costs per house we have been able to supply the materials for 20 houses. During this period 5 Mission Trips have occurred, which means 35 people have gone to East Timor from our Sunday community, Thursday Craft, other churches and the wider community. Some team members have returned multiple times.
All team members were deeply and significantly impacted by the trip and a variety of activities/projects were achieved during their time away. These have included: provision of medical supplies, supply of materials to upgrade water supply within Bahareduk, both practical and financial support for veggie gardens as well as growing trust and building relationships with the people of Bahareduk. There is so much for which to be thankful and to celebrate.
